SmartCam, Turn your Nokia 5800 into a Webcam!

Here's another awesome freeware application for today!!

SmartCam, comes bundled with a client for your PC and your Nokia S60v5 phone.

Steps to get it running:

1. Install SmartCam_v1_3.exe on your PC.
2. Install SmartCamS60v5_v1.3.sisx on your phone.
3. Startup SmartCam on your PC and go to File>Settings to make sure that the TCP/IP (Wifi) option is checked. Then keep the client running and proceed to the next step.
   
4. Start SmartCam on your phone and go to Options>Connect where it will ask you for your server name. Here you will need to type in your PC's IP address. For most people it will be in the order of 192.168.X.XXX (You will be able to get the IP from your router settings).
5. That's it, your webcam should be up and running now!

Note: The bluetooth option does not work for now. You can fiddle around with it at your own risk, when I tried it froze my phone!

Also, you can use this webcam feature for multiple applications such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM etc, just make sure you change your device to SmartCam in each of these chat messengers.

Nokia Sports Tracker for Nokia 5800, Nokia N97 & Nokia 5530

Hey folks,

This is by far one of my favorite applications for the Nokia 5800 and I rate it a 10/10.

It allows you to use your phone as a GPS tracker and cacher for your workout activities.

In the video you will see a brief demonstration of the app, then a clip of an exported workout to Google Earth and lastly the the workout uploaded to Nokia's Sport Tracker website.

Touch Piano, play the piano on your phone!

Got a talent for creating music, here's an application that'll help you while on the go.

Touch Piano is a freeware which basically offers the functionality of full piano to play on your phone.
This app comes with a lot of customizable options and skins, However in my honest opinion it's not the best at registering touch and there seems to be a lag between pressing a key and hearing the sound.

Touch Guitar, play the guitar on your phone.

Touch Guitar provides customizable skins and allows you to jam out by allowing you to choose from multiple chords.

Inclinometer for Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97

Here comes a freeware from Dr. Jukka's laboratory.

The app basically uses the inbuilt accelerometer on the device to show you how far can you push your offroader before you flip it!

Nokia Ovi Maps 3.0

Yes, I know this isn't exactly news however for those who haven't updated Nokia Maps 2.0 to Ovi Maps 3.0 here's a quick way to do so.

1) Go here and download the latest client available for your phone.

2) Nokia 5800 users will be prompted to download and install Maps Updated, which is a PC client that will remove the old maps and software before installing the newest Ovi Maps 3.o.

3) Click here to download the Map Loader and after installing load away the needed maps.

Periodic Table (Elements) for Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97

Here is another freeware app which is worth mentioning. It's basically a periodic table with all added information for each element.

It's very well compiled and very easy to use. Another great freeware from Ovi Store, yeah take that iTunes app store!!

Free Counter app, does what it says!

Here's another free app from Ovi Store released over this weekend.

If you're a bouncer or work ticket counters, I'd imagine this would be your app of choice. Again, this is one of the most visually appealing and easy to use counters out there for the S60v5 phones.

Tic Tac Toe for Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97, freeware from Ovi Store

Here's the newest freeware game from the Ovi Store for our much loved Symbian S60v5 phones.

I quite like this game, its appealing graphics and smooth finishing are good. However, the AI isn't the smartest and it's pretty easy to beat him and there's no options to change the difficulty level. However, for a freeware its all good!

Bluetooth PC Remote Control Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97, free app Smart Touch

This is the best freeware Pc Remote app for S60v5 phones.

It lets you control the PC mouse and Windows media player right from your phone!

Here's how to get it up and running:
1) Install pythonscriptshell195 on your phone
2) Install smarttouch_v0_4_1 on your phone
3) Start SmartTouch.exe on your PC
4) Start client on phone and search for your PC
5) On the phone select the PC you want to control and wait till it says connected.
6) That should be all!

Note: Does not work with Bluesoleil bluetooth stack! Use native Windows client Bluetooth Stack.

Google Maps v3.2.1 with Latitude for Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97

Here is the latest edition of Google Maps for Symbian S60v5 phones. This edition comes with the addition of support for different layers as seen before in Google Earth.

With the added feature of Layers, you can choose to see traffic, wiki listings, your own created maps etc.

Photoflow, sliding flowing touch application to scroll through your pictures!

Photoflow, is another awesome app that allows you to "flow" through your pictures rather than select them in the Gallery.

Simply use your finger to flick through the catalog. Double click to zoom and drag to pan the image around.

Facebook for Nokia 5800

This is one of the most required apps on any device these days. I know that the North American Nokia 5800 comes preinstalled widget for facebook access.

However, there's an updated Facebook application released on the Ovi Store available for download.

Download via Ovi Store. Unfortunately I couldn't find a direct download .sisx for this app.

Hey all,

This is one of the top free applications available for the Nokia 5800 today!

Not only does it allow you to connect to pretty much any Chat providers it allows you to connect to multiple Social Websites like Facebook & Myspace.

The best feature for me personally was Skype for the Nokia 5800, as there is no native client for s60v5. I tried calling over wifi and it worked perfectly.

Qik, stream videos from your Nokia 5800 directly

This is by far one of the coolest apps for the Nokia 5800 and a bunch of other devices.

It basically allows you to stream videos live from your camera phone to the web. You can just navigate later to www.qik.com/"yourusername" and view them.

It allows streaming over Wifi and GPRS data (3G) and is pretty quick to do so on pretty much all the devices I've tested it on.

Psiloc World Traveller, free World Time, Currency Converter & Weather application

This new travel application from Psiloc is an all in one software for your on the go needs.

Truecaller, Free Caller ID for your Nokia 5800! (Sort Off)

Truecaller is another totally free awesome app. It runs in the background and automatically runs a reverse phone lookup for those numbers not saved in your contacts to give you information on whose calling.

Note, for this app to work you will need to have caller ID provided by your service provider and it will use data (about 1kb) if you're on the go.

However, this app can also be used as a reverse phone lookup over wifi at home.

Phone Torch for the Nokia 5800

This is another useful yet just as cool app for the Nokia 5800.

It's called Phone Torch, and it does exactly what it does, lets you use the phone as a torch when required.

It's simple GUI lets you turn on and control the 2 LED flashlights on the back of the camera with the touch of a button.

Now here's the really cool and innovative part to the app: There's a Morse Code option in the app, which basically will let you type any message in and it will automatically covert and transmit it via the LEDs.

Paint Pad, a Sketch pad app for Nokia 5800

Here it is folks another crucial freeware for the Nokia XpressMusic 5800.

This app is basically a Paint like application, which lets you make your creations starting with an existing image, or a blank sheet or from a picture taken from the camera.

It only however, lets you save in the .jpg format, but since most of you won't be using this as a Photoshop alternative I doubt it'll matter to the most of you.
